I HAVE been working with Rita Semel, the interfaith activist for
the Jewish community, for the last 25 years.
I first met her at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. She
held my hand and said, "We need Muslim participation in the
interfaith work that is going on in the Bay Area.
"We cannot find anyone from the Muslim community to represent
Islam in the interfaith dialogue. The phone calls at the mosque also
go unanswered. We need your help to get Muslims involved in
interfaith work."
That was the beginning of a new relationship between the Muslim
and interfaith communities in our area, and much of the credit goes
to Rita.
