SAN FRANCISCO - The gray whales are back, migrating northward in
a stream along the California coast and at least one is playing
tourist in San Francisco Bay.
There have been whale sightings since Monday - off Tiburon, near
Crissy Field, Fort Point and Alcatraz and they've drawn some excited
spectators hoping for a glimpse.
"I saw the helicopter flying around and I thought, 'Oh no,
somebody jumped off the bridge,' " said Michelle Cody, 54, of San
Francisco. "But then I saw the spout."
Her friend, Mary Barnes, 34, also saw the whale off Crissy Field.
They walk their dogs there all the time, but have only seen a whale
once before and that was several years ago.
