A GUEST house has operated in the city for more than a year
without an appropriate licence.
The Lantern, which lies between Leith Walk and London Road,
opened in late 2006 but has only recently applied for the planning
permission needed to run a guest house.
The local community council and Leith councillors are furious at
the situation, which they say is an insult to the planning process
and encourages other businesses to press on with plans and only
apply for the right consent retrospectively.
But Michael Smith, owner of the Windsor Street premises, said the
guest house had operated in one form or another since the 1960s -
with a brief break when he took over - and it was only recently ...
