Milwaukee County is the last defendant standing after
Professional Service Industries Inc. settled in a state lawsuit over
asbestos violations on Milwaukee's courthouse annex demolition.
Milwaukee County, the fifth defendant named in the lawsuit,
argues it did no wrong, and its contractors are to blame for
violations during the 2005 demolition of the annex.
"We're not in the inspection and remediation business, which is
why we hired certified people to do that," said John Schapekahm,
Milwaukee County's principal assistant corporate counsel. "The
actual amount of the fine, seems to me, ought to reflect how
