The name, C'est La Vie, is a fitting epitaph for the tavern that
called itself that for the past 34 years and now has closed.
That's life.
You're up, you're down, and then you're gone.
"Business hasn't been that good the past year," said owner Martin
Belkin, 66. "I've done my best. I just can't fight it anymore."
The gay bar scene in Milwaukee is changing. The 200 block of S.
2nd St., when it was more of a warehouse district, was home to C'est
La Vie, Club 219, the Phoenix and other clubs. It was like a
miniature gay Water St.
But this area, known as the Fifth Ward, is starting to happen as
coolness and condos spill over from the neighboring Third Ward and
attract restaurants, galleries and ...
