An inquest into the deaths of 14 service personnel killed in a
Nimrod aircraft which exploded over Afghanistan is expected to hear
severe criticisms of military equipment.
The tragedy, the single largest military loss of life since the
Falklands, was most probably caused by leaking fuel.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is likely to come under serious
attack from the coroner for failing to provide adequate equipment
fit for service.
Fourteen military personnel died when Nimrod MR2 came down 12
miles west of Kandahar in September 2006.
They included two from the Westcountry - Flt Lt Gareth Nicholas,
40, of Redruth, and Sergeant Ben Knight, 25, of Bridgwater,
