South West farmers struggling against an ever-advancing tide of
bovine TB have called for the removal of Defra Secretary Hilary
Benn.
They say the former Overseas Development Minister has shown
little or no interest in farming since his appointment almost a year
ago.
And, in particular, they say he has ignored repeated invitations
to visit those areas of the West Country plagued by the worst-ever
TB crisis.
Their demands have been sparked by the Government's continuing
lack of action over the badger cull its scientific advisors say must
be carried out as part of any comprehensive plan to control and
eradicate TB in the region's cattle herds.
