Coastguards have praised a Torpoint fishing boat skipper for his
competence and quick thinking after his dramatic rescue of the crew
of a sinking catamaran 12 miles south of Plymouth.
Nigel 'Corky' Cork was fishing alone near the Eddystone yesterday
morning in his 26-foot fishing boat the Karli-N when another craft,
a motor-powered catamaran, pulled alongside with three people
aboard. The crew were in a state of panic as their boat was sinking
fast.
"I didn't see them come up, to be honest," said Mr Cork, 51.
"There was a big thud and their skipper said, 'I'm taking on water;
I'm taking on water.'
"I said, 'You'd better get out of there and come aboard.'"
