Article: Columbia Declines Comment On Arrest Of Band Director

The arrest of the band director at Columbia Junior/Senior High School was confirmed Thursday by the school board president, but no comment was made about the case.

Robert Richards was arrested April 7 for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student, and a district statement says he was suspended without pay.

Board president Tom Strickler said the district received inquiries from concerned citizens regarding the arrest.

He said, Upon conclusion of the board's due process obligations under the Pennsylvania School Code, the board will be free to hear, and respond in appropriate fashion, to comment regarding Mr. Richards.
