Doug Kirby was primarily a boardsailor when he moved to the Edgewater. When Kirby was looking for something new to sail, he discovered that a beach catamaran was the only thing that came close to matching the thrill and excitement of windsurfing.

Kirby bought a NACRA 20 four years ago along with fellow West River Sailing Club member Andy Herbick and the two have put a lot of miles beneath the twin hulls since. Kirby-Herbick have competed in the prestigious Tybee 500, finishing third one year in the grueling race from Florida to an island off Georgia.
