While other digitally enhanced offerings strive for a photo- realistic imitation of life and end up inanimate, this kid-and- family-oriented film -- written and directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski, who created the "Matrix" trilogy -- makes life look like a vibrant, eye-popping cartoon.

Which is fitting since it is based on the clunky syndicated Japanese anime series that debuted in 1967.
