The new East Riding Council chairman has some big ideas for the year ahead.

Councillor Bryan Pearson, who took over the ambassadorial position last week from outgoing chairman Councillor Barbara Jefferson, is keen to promote the benefits of the East Riding.

He said: "The East Riding is progressive.

"When you look at what makes up the East Riding, there is an awful lot which is unique and wonderful.

"But we mustn't stand still, and that is one thing I am going to promote."

Cllr Pearson, who represents St Mary's ward in Beverley, said he hopes to use his engagements throughout the year to help instil a sense of pride in the community.
