Foley breaks 100 free mark

SAN RAMON -- Going into Saturday's East Bay Athletic League swimming finals, one record had stood for 21 years, but Amador Valley's Kayleigh Foley changed that.

In 1986, California's Laura Walker won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.69 seconds. Over the years, many girls had set their eyes on the mark, but none had been able to beat it until Foley shattered it with a 51.03 clocking.

"I wasn't expecting that," Foley said. "I only get times like that when I'm really well-rested."

Foley also set the meet record in the 50 freestyle. The old mark of 24.05 was set only two years ago, but Foley was more than excited after beating it with a time of 23.73.
