SAN RAMON -- Going into Saturday's East Bay Athletic League
swimming finals, one record had stood for 21 years, but Amador
Valley's Kayleigh Foley changed that.
In 1986, California's Laura Walker won the 100-yard freestyle in
51.69 seconds. Over the years, many girls had set their eyes on the
mark, but none had been able to beat it until Foley shattered it
with a 51.03 clocking.
"I wasn't expecting that," Foley said. "I only get times like
that when I'm really well-rested."
Foley also set the meet record in the 50 freestyle. The old mark
of 24.05 was set only two years ago, but Foley was more than excited
after beating it with a time of 23.73.
