Article: Anger as post office rejects rescue plans

Town leaders are aghast at Post Office bosses who won't give them the chance to keep a profitable branch open - because it could affect other branches including their own.

Uplands post office is set to close its doors on June 9, even though it makes a profit.

Stroud Town Council's bid to rescue it has been ignored by Post Office Ltd, which told the council that keeping Uplands going would be at the cost of others.

There are two post office branches nearby - at Paganhill, run by Uplands postmaster Robin Craig, and Crown office in the town centre, owned by Post Office Ltd.

Town councillor Andy Read was furious that Post Office Ltd would not talk about a rescue plan.
