The other day there appeared in your paper an article by an
estate agent which sought to suggest that second homes have been of
great benefit to the Westcountry.
They have not, of course - but they have certainly been of
great benefit to estate agents in the Westcountry and other rural
and coastal areas. Their fees are based on the purchase price, so
that as the prices paid rise so do the estate agent's riches.
Perhaps the best illustration of this is demonstrated by the big
increase in the numbers of estate agents advertising in your paper
