Article: Matching pi to calendar has no point

MARCH 14 went down in some quarters as a celebration of pi, the Greek letter that signifies the relationship between the diameter and the circumference of a circle. This was amusing, because the date was "3/14/08," which is pi, to a point. Pi, to two places, is 3.14. That's a very abbreviated number, considering that pi has an endless number of places.

Here are the first few numbers in the decimal: 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693993751. So, technically, pi really commemorates March 14, 1915 or 2015, or some other century's 15th year.

How did "08" get in there? Does no one in charge of this nonsense know the first five decimals of pi? Apparently not.
