U.S. Open qualifier at Edgewood has Hooters flavor: ; Area golf notebook

No, the NGA Hooters Pro Golf Tour didn't make a stop in the Kanawha Valley.

But make no mistake: There were a few of those pros swinging it Wednesday at Edgewood Country Club in a U.S. Open local qualifier.

Joe Larson made the biggest splash, shooting a 4-under-par 66 to lead the 40-man field and snag one of three available spots in sectional qualifying. Shawn Warren, a recent Marshall graduate, and Ernie Rose shot 70s, missing the three qualifying spots by a stroke.

And then there was Jay Woodson, who was poised to snatch a spot away from either Monte Chittum or Uly Grisette. But Woodson shot a nine on the 18th hole, giving him a heartbreaking 72.
