Gertrude Van Straten, a longtime resident of Redlands, died May 9
at her home in Redlands. She was 92.
She was born July 16, 1915, in Harrisburg, S.D., and as a child
she live on farms in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. Her family
moved to Redlands in 1922 for her mother's health.
She married Henry Van Straten in 1937, and they moved to the
Sloan property on Prospect Drive in 1943.
According to her family, "Gertrude had many interests, however,
her rose garden was special to her. She had over 100 varieties of
roses."
She attended Bible Study Fellowship until her health failed.
