EDWARD KENNEDY, the veteran Democratic senator and patriarch of
America's most famous political dynasty, was airlifted to hospital
yesterday after suffering a seizure.
Mr Kennedy, 76, was flown by helicopter to Massachusetts General
Hospital in Boston after receiving initial treatment near the
Kennedy family compound at Hyannisport, Cape Cod. He was due to
undergo tests last night.
His Irish-American clan has been dogged by tragedy as well as
clothed in political glory. Both of the senator's brothers,
President John Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, were assassinated in the
Sixties.
In an encouraging sign for his health, a spokeswoman for Mr
