Article: Get ready for mixed martial arts bouts in Maryland

Promoters of mixed martial arts are hailing the addition of Maryland as the latest state to open its doors to the popular events.

As one of nearly 150 measures signed by Gov. Martin O'Malley Thursday during his fourth, and final, bill signing, the new law adds mixed martial arts to the list of sports regulated by the Maryland State Athletic Commission. The athletic commission, part of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, is now charged with drafting the regulations that will be used and training a pool of referees and judges for mixed martial arts fights.
