John Morris this week answered a question that has been asked in
local cricket circles for years - how does a good league cricketer
get a chance with Derbyshire?
The answer, in a single word, is commitment. It is about a
promising player putting other areas of his life on the back-burner
and backing himself to make it in county cricket.
And the classic current example of it is Jonathan Clare (pictured
below, left), the Lancashire reject, who has thrown himself into a
second chance at Derbyshire to the extent that he has earned an
extended contract and established himself in the first team.
