Seven days ago, the Chantilly girls' lacrosse players walked off
the field at Fairfax High stunned that their hopes for an undefeated
season ended in the Concorde District final against Robinson.
But the Chargers' captain, senior Brittany Griel, made a keen
observation after the loss. Noting that a berth to the Northern
Region tournament was clinched, she acknowledged that the doorway to
a state title was still open. "Our season is just beginning," she
said then.
Last night, No. 7 Chantilly (14-1) kept that season going in
dominant fashion, beating Liberty District champion Stone Bridge (14-
2) in the Northern Region quarterfinals, 18-5. Sophomore midfielder
