DAYTON -- Karen Russo's condensed dance drama of Tennessee
Williams' "A Streetcar Named Desire," which had its premiere on the
Dayton Ballet's "Evening of Repertory" on Thursday, April 24, is a
study of Blanche DuBois.
Stanley (Richard Grund) is seen but not heard bellowing for
Stella (Jennifer Grund) during the 30-minute work to an original
score by William Sokol. But casual, subtle gestures propel the
story: Blanche sipping from Stanley's beer shortly after arriving;
Stanley fouling Blanche's chance with Mitch (Eduard Forehand) with
one nasty whisper; Stella noticing how Blanche shrinks from Stanley.
