You might not think of Indiana as a winemaking state. Twenty
years ago, you would have been right.
You could have counted the state's wineries using all but one of
your fingers.
Today, however, Indiana is home to 34 wineries, with four more
scheduled to open this year. Together, these wineries attract more
than 800,000 visitors each year and pour more than $30 million into
the state's economy.
In late 2006, seven Indianapolis-area wineries banded together to
form the Indy Wine Trail.
Dr. Charles Thomas, owner of Chateau Thomas Winery in Plainfield,
was one of the organizers behind the trail.
