For thousands of California workers, rising unemployment rates,
an enormous budget deficit and a looming recession are the least of
their concerns. California aerospace workers are more worried about
the fact that the Department of Defense is sending 44,000 U.S.
manufacturing jobs and a critical defense contract for tanker
refueling aircraft overseas.
According to the International Association of Machinists and
Aerospace Workers (IAM) International Vice President Lee Pearson,
this new fleet of tanker refueling aircraft, or "gas stations in the
sky," is one of the most important purchases that the DOD will make
