Pasquale Caputo came to America from Italy on a boat in 1954, and
his life has played out as a Chicago success story.
Starting with "just a dream," Caputo founded Wiscon Corp., which
makes the Caputo line of cheeses. It's now a multimillion-dollar
business, with plants in Melrose Park and Brazil. Caputo even owned a
pro basketball team in Italy for a stretch, with NBA star Kobe Bryant
as a partner.
Caputo, a Lake Bluff resident, will be one of the many proud
members of Chicago's Italian-American community celebrating Columbus
Day today. Caputo, who turns 63 today, will be at the head of the
55th annual Columbus Day parade, serving for the first time as the
parade's chairman.
