Article: Breast cancer diagnoses soar: But, more women like Bev Parker are surviving

The number of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer has risen sharply in the past decade -- but the good news is that fewer patients are dying.

Mammograms and better treatments are helping patients such as Bev Parker become long-term survivors.

Parker has had three bouts of breast cancer during the past 21 years, most recently in 2005. She's been in remission since her third lumpectomy, and feels great.

"There is life after breast cancer," said Parker, a research analyst for the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. "To the best of my doctor's knowledge, I'm cancer-free, but nobody says you're cured."
