Mental health patients went AWOL from Plymouth psychiatric units
82 times in the past year.
But health chiefs stress just 43 patients were responsible for
the unauthorised absences.
And they said many patients, sectioned under the Mental Health
Act, were not at risk and simply late returning from approved leave.
The figures include 42 patients under the care of Plymouth
Primary Care Trust, who accounted for 77 absences.
A further five instances were due to just one patient who managed
to bust out of Mount Gould hospital five times - by smashing 'break
glass buttons' to open doors.
