On Monday, a cross-party attempt to ban hybrid human-animal
embryos, as a means to develop treatments for cancer and conditions
such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, was defeated on a free
vote, by 336 to 176.
Westcountry MPs to have backed the idea of a ban included Colin
Breed (South East Cornwall), Geoffrey Cox (Torridge and West Devon),
Gary Streeter (South West Devon) and Richard Younger-Ross
(Teignbridge).
MPs from the region to oppose the ban were Ben Bradshaw (Exeter),
Angela Browning (Tiverton and Honiton), Jeremy Browne (Taunton),
Andrew George (St Ives), Linda Gilroy (Plymouth Sutton), Julia
Goldsworthy (Falmouth and Camborne), Nick Harvey (North Devon), ...
