The swinging Sixties - a period renowned for youthful rebellion
and the sexual revolution.
How ironic then, that the audience's response to this nostalgic
musical is one of old-fashioned restraint.
Clapping, dancing and singing along are all conspicuous by their
absence until well after the halfway mark.
But, it's hard to believe this unresponsiveness is a sign that
the singing isn't up to much, given the generous applause which
greets the end of every song.
As someone born long after the era in question and with a very
limited knowledge of Sixties music, it's difficult for me to judge
how good a job the cast have done in recreating the sounds of that
decade.
