Hopes of finding a rescue package to save a crisis-hit swimming
pool are fading after the main contenders to bring it back from the
brink pulled out.
The Aquasplash leisure centre in Minehead was closed in October
after springing a major leak which left West Somerset District
Council facing a pounds50,000 repair bill after thousands of gallons
of water escaped from the pool.
The cash-strapped council had to accept it could not afford to
reopen the pool and set up a working group to find a third party to
step in and launch a rescue package.
And the pool looked close to being pulled from its financial hot
water when Tone Leisure, the company that runs leisure facilities in
