Wiltshire's Air Ambulance will continue in its present form until
at least the end of 2010, and could well be saved in the longer
term.
That was the pledge by ambulance chiefs yesterday, who dismissed
fears the service was "under threat".
Bosses at Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) said that
although they could not guarantee exactly in what form the air
ambulance would operate around Wiltshire, they promised that there
would always be a provision over the county.
And yesterday, GWAS said it wanted to sign an extension to the
contract with Wiltshire police to share the force's helicopter for
another two years from when the present deal runs out in December
this year.
