To get an out without allowing a run would be a start. Getting two would be a sign of progress. Getting three outs in a single inning, without a run, would be a sign of success.

Six outs without a Phillie crossing the plate might compel the tall left-hander to leap into the arms of catcher Bengie Molina.

That said, it's prudent to keep hopes modest, for Zito has troubles all over the board.
