OAKLAND -- Huston Street takes a hefty amount of adrenaline to
the mound for the ninth inning, as do all major league closers.
In nailing down his ninth save of the season Sunday against the
Texas Rangers, Street's competitiveness boiled over a bit when he
got in a verbal confrontation with home plate umpire Jeff Nelson
with two outs in the ninth and a runner on second base.
The scene quickly simmered down, but it's rare to see Street
jawing with an umpire in any situation. The seeds were planted
earlier in the inning after Street was called for a balk when Nelson
ruled he went to his mouth while standing on the dirt of the
pitcher's mound.
