PITTSBURGH -- Barry Zito returned to the Giants rotation
Wednesday night, and for the first time in weeks looked as if he
belonged there.
Zito still became the first starter since the franchise moved to
San Francisco to lose his first seven starts in a season. But the
embattled left-hander appeared to begin putting the pieces back
together with five strong innings in a 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh
Pirates at PNC Park.
Pitching for the first time since being banished to the bullpen
10 days earlier, Zito displayed improved fastball command and a more
aggressive approach, especially early in the count. He struck out a
season-high five batters and tied a season-low by allowing five
hits.
