Article: Spies feels need for SuperBike speed

It would be easy for Ben Spies to look ahead.

The 23-year-old Texan knows he's going to need a string of victories -- including and beyond this weekend's Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown -- to catch teammate and points leader Mat Mladin in the Superbike standings. And after this season, it appears he'll bolt for the world's premier motorcycle racing series, MotoGP.

Right now, though, all Spies says he is thinking of is winning a pair of races at Infineon Raceway in what may be his final competitive appearance at the 2.22-mile road course. Practice and qualifying begins today with the first of two Superbike races on Saturday at 3:25 p.m. Sunday's race is at 3 p.m.
