BROCKTON - George Toma had been mulling an expansion of his East
Weymouth TV and appliance store, George Washington Toma, for more
than a decade. The right opportunity never seemed to present itself.
Then, about a year ago, Toma's longtime friend and colleague Dick
Karp, primary owner of Central Stores TV and Appliance, asked Toma
if he would consider taking over the 4,200-square foot store near
Westgate Mall in Brockton when Karp retired.
"The first time he mentioned it, I thought he must be crazy,"
Toma said, "but the more we talked about it, the more it made
perfect sense."
Toma bought Central Stores from Karp for an undisclosed amount at
