Article: Wright controversy prompts talk on race ; United Church of Christ plans a nationwide 'preach-in'

Influenced by the recent controversy surrounding the Rev.
Jeremiah Wright, the United Church of Christ has decided to directly
address the topic of race. As a pastoral letter from the UCC reads:
"Racism remains a wound at the heart of our nation, a wound that
cannot be wished away or treated carelessly."
On May 18, UCC churches nationwide will host a "preach-in" in
which pastors are encouraged to dedicate their sermons to race, in
both acknowledging past sins and striving for a better future.
As the UCC acknowledges, the subject is not foreign to the
church, but the public discourse on comments by Rev. Wright, a
former pastor at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, ...
