WHAT a strange nation the English are, clinging doggedly to this
pin prick off the coast of Western Europe.
Despite being full members of the EC, we still distrust our
continental partners and prefer to boast about our "special
relationship" with the US (a relationship so special that only one
side even knows it exists).
We revere our dysfunctional Royal family, we view our educational
system as though it were an Escher staircase (with standards
constantly falling, yet never getting any lower), and we sit in
"wait to be seated" restaurants complaining about the lousy food,
then when the waiter asks if everything is okay, we smile and say,
"Yes, it's lovely, thank you."
And, worst of all, ...
