Article: Anniversaries mark symphony season

As he contemplated completing his second decade as music director of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra, John Strickler kept his eye on the calendar in programming the just-announced 2008-09 season.

"This next season will be my 20th with the Topeka Symphony, so I started thinking in terms of anniversaries," Strickler said. "Every concert will have some sort of anniversary tie-in."

A good example of this calendar-minded programming comes with the first Masterworks concert of the season on Oct. 4, when Strickler will lead the orchestra in playing Johannes Brahms' Second Symphony.
