As he contemplated completing his second decade as music director
of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra, John Strickler kept his eye on the
calendar in programming the just-announced 2008-09 season.
"This next season will be my 20th with the Topeka Symphony, so I
started thinking in terms of anniversaries," Strickler said. "Every
concert will have some sort of anniversary tie-in."
A good example of this calendar-minded programming comes with the
first Masterworks concert of the season on Oct. 4, when Strickler
will lead the orchestra in playing Johannes Brahms' Second Symphony.
