As the Iraq war continues, reports of soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder surface regularly in the news.

Veterans may be the most visible group of PTSD patients, but they aren't the only ones to have ongoing physical symptoms after a deeply disturbing event.

Police, firefighters and other first-responders may experience flashbacks, panic attacks or nightmares related to their work. Victims of natural disasters, domestic violence or child sexual abuse also may show signs of PTSD.
