As the Iraq war continues, reports of soldiers suffering from
post-traumatic stress disorder surface regularly in the news.
Veterans may be the most visible group of PTSD patients, but they
aren't the only ones to have ongoing physical symptoms after a
deeply disturbing event.
Police, firefighters and other first-responders may experience
flashbacks, panic attacks or nightmares related to their work.
Victims of natural disasters, domestic violence or child sexual
abuse also may show signs of PTSD.
As awareness of the disorder has grown, so have the opportunities
to find treatment and support right here in Westmoreland County.
