ECOSOC discusses relationship between development, climate change

UNITED NATIONS, May 2 (Xinhua) -- The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) held on Friday a meeting to explore the relationship between climate change and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a set of eight targets, ranging from eradicating extreme poverty to improving access to education and health care, that world leaders have agreed to achieve by 2015.

Council president Leo Merores told council members that ECOSOC should send a strong message that efforts to achieve the anti- poverty goals could be reversed if climate change is not addressed.
