Myanmar stepping up relief work after cyclone strike

YANGON, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar is stepping up relief and resettlement work after a deadly tropical cyclone Nargis swept the country's five divisions and states over the weekend, said Information Minister Brigadier-General Kyaw Hsan Tuesday.

In a press briefing here, Kyaw Hsan said Yangon city is making its best efforts to resume the normal transportation, communication and electricity supply.

The minister said international aid was urgently needed for the resumption of the three sectors while items in need included tents, plastics, tarpaulin, CI sheet, medicine, instant food, blanket, cloth, nail and communications equipment.
