EU welcomes outcome of Serbia's parliamentary elections

BELGRADE, May 12 (Xinhua) -- The European Union has expressed its satisfaction with the outcome of Serbia's latest parliamentary elections.

"The EU presidency warmly welcomes the clear victory of pro- European forces at the Serbian general elections," a statement from the rotating Slovenian presidency said late Sunday night when preliminary results of the day's elections were known.

"This should enable Serbia to advance further on its EU party, including the candidate status," the statement was explicit, adding, "A new government will soon be composed with a clear European agenda."
