Article: City's garden show entry is tribute to the fallen

A HOUSE and garden that provided a haven of peace for soldiers during the First World War are the feature of Leeds City Council's entry into this year's Chelsea Flower Show, which opens to the public today.

The display, entitled The Largest Room in the House, commemorates the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War, It is based on Talbot House, in Poperinghe, Belgium, which was founded by two priests, Neville S. Talbot and Philip "Tubby" Clayton, as a place of peace and relaxation.

Actor Ian McNeice dressed as "Tubby" Clayton to read war poetry for the preview yesterday.
