THE Dalai Lama appeared at the seat of government in Westminster
yesterday with an appeal to Prime Minister Gordon Brown not to
forget the plight of Tibet in his quest to build stronger relations
with China.
In a tiny room off Parliament's historic Westminster Hall, the
exiled Tibetan spiritual and political leader told a packed news
conference it would be a mistake for Britain to put economic ties
before principles.
Speaking in broken English, with occasional help from an
interpreter, the 73-year-old Buddhist monk nevertheless displayed
acute political intelligence as he effortlessly held court for over
