China's southernmost beach city draws holidaymakers
HAIKOU, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- As north China shivers in the icy
cold, holidaymakers are rushing to Sanya, an ideal beach city in the
southernmost island province of Hainan, for the incoming Chinese
Lunar New Year holiday.
Despite a temporary 25-percent increase in hotel room charges, 90
percent of the city's star-level hotels and guest houses were booked
two weeks before the traditional Chinese Spring Festival that falls
on Jan. 22 this year.
But sources with the local tourism authority say that the city had
nearly 400 hotels with vacant rooms at different prices.
They predict that 190,000 people will visit Sanya ...
