Chicken prices in India drop after bird flu scare

NEW DELHI, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- After the outbreak of bird flu in some Asian countries, the demand for chicken in New Delhi has fallen, which caused a drastic drop in prices.

In New Delhi food and vegetable markets, chickens price, which was usually around Rs 35 to Rs 42 per kilo in the past, has plummeted to Rs 18- Rs 22 a kilo.

"I usually buy up to 500-600 chickens, but due to the bird flu scare, I have only been able to sell about 90 only. There has been a near 60 percent drop," said a shop owner sadly.
