Kerry wins Wisconsin primary

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- John Kerry, a senator from Massachusetts, won the primary in Wisconsin on Tuesday, moving a step closer to winning the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

Preliminary results showed that Kerry had 39 percent of the vote, followed closely by Senator John Edwards from North Carolina with 35 percent of the vote. Former Vermont governor Howard Dean, a one-time front-runner before the nominating process started in January, received only 18 percent.

With Tuesday's first-place finish, Kerry has won 15 of the 17 contests held so far.
