Property: HOT SPOT Leighton Buzzard - The market town where city types come to roost

WITH DIRECT train service to Euston and a narrow-gauge railway that goes around in circles, Leighton Buzzard caters for workers in the fast lane who enjoy a personal life in the slow lane.

Estate agent Simon Wilkinson says: "Our buyers are mainly London commuters or people who have jobs in the region. Increasingly, we are a satellite town of Milton Keynes, and some people who work there want to live in a place with a market-town feel.

"Leighton Buzzard held up well during the recession of the Nineties. I think this was because our local economy is diverse. Last year property prices increased by 12 to 14 per cent, and this year we expect rises of 8 to 10 per cent."
